Special Issue 2022

Expression of Interest - due November 12, 2021

This international, open access journal provides the opportunity to disseminate current research and innovative good practice about students’ tertiary learning experiences.  All publications are grounded in the literature and supported by a robust evidence base.

The Journal publishes an annual special issue in a distinct area of research and practice related to Student Success’s aims and scope, which are described here.  The Special Issue is an opportunity for Guest Editors to propose the theme for the issue and to lead the selection and publication process.

The same criteria for quality, originality, and significance apply to articles in Special Issues as to regular articles. Special issue articles must not consist of overviews of the Editors or authors' previously published work e.g., peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, or full conference papers and should be relevant to an international audience.

Special Issues are published in November/December of each calendar year and expressions of interest are invited via email to the Editor-in-Chief Professor Karen Nelson and cc’d to no later than Friday November 12, 2021.

The following must be included:

  • Proposed title of special issue
  • Theme of the special issue
  • Proposed Special Issue Editors
  • Short biography for each proposed editor
  • Proposed contributors (if known)
  • A statement of the special issue’s alignment with Student Success and a draft editorial / introduction to the special issue.
  • A proposed timeline (that aligns to the publishing date)

Please consult  for details about policies and submission guidelines. Note that contributors will be expected to submit articles that comply with the submission guidelines and with the type of submissions stipulated.  Peer review methods must also align with the Student Success guidelines

While special issues are specifically organised by the Guest Editors, the SSJ Editorial team will be involved in the review of initial submissions and in the final selection of papers for the issue.  This is to ensure that the papers align to the current expectations and emphasis on quality research.

Final copyediting and production will be undertaken by the Journal Manager, Tracy Creagh.
